Nothing here states a cause as fact.

I. The empty seats and the clock on each

The Speaker’s warrant is the Speaker’s notice to the Chief Electoral Officer that a seat is vacant, and a by-election’s clock starts when Elections Canada receives it, not on the day the member leaves. The writ is the order that starts the by-election itself. The writ must then be issued between the 11th and the 180th day after the warrant, under the Parliament of Canada Act. Polling day is a Monday, between the 36th and the 50th day after the writ, under the Canada Elections Act. Every empty seat had its warrant recorded as of November 1, 2026, each from the Elections Canada news release that announced it.

Each row is a seat, with the party that won it at the election of April 28, 2025 and the caucus its member sat with when it fell empty. The dates are the day it fell empty, the day the warrant reached Elections Canada, the last day a by-election may be called and the latest polling day that allows. A row gains its polling day when Elections Canada announces the by-election, and leaves the table when the seat is filled. Each seat’s own page carries its member and its 2025 result.

Each result is marked official, from Elections Canada’s official voting results, or validated, from the returning officers’ validation of the count, which comes first. Every by-election held since the election carries one or the other, as of November 1, 2026.

III. The cutoff before the fixed date

No writ is issued for a seat that falls empty less than nine months before the date the Canada Elections Act fixes for the next general election, October 15, 2029. That makes January 15, 2029 the last day a seat can fall empty and still have a by-election, under the Parliament of Canada Act. Parliament can be dissolved before the fixed date, and a general election then fills every empty seat at once.

What this does not say, and how it was made. the empty seat whose by-election must be called first, among the seats with a warrant and no polling day Two series may be shown moving together, each dated and both figures printed. The page never states a cause as fact: each reading below is labelled a reading, with what would confirm or refute it. A move inside the pollsters’ stated error is said to be inside it. A census figure describes a riding, never its voters.
